A contemporary classic Big but not too big, the Trafic boasts contemporary good looks while offering a great deal of automotive grit and determination – and a welcome load capacity. Possessed of clean, unfussy lines and several eye-catching fixtures – such as a chrome grille, this versatile commercial vehicle is the kind that always appears to put its best wheel forward, whatever’s thrown at it.
Making access easier The Renault Trafic is fitted with a sliding door on its left side and a rear tailgate that opens flush to the roof. An additional right sliding door and 180-degree-opening rear doors are available as options with entry-level Pro grades – and come as standard with top-tier Premium trims and Crew Lifestyle models.
Practical features The van comes with a number of useful fixtures as standard, such as electrically heated door mirrors that offer a wide-angle view. And underneath the vehicle is located a spare wheel – because you never know when you might need it.
Pick a paint finish The Trafic comes with a choice of three solid paint finishes: Glacier White, Urban Grey and Magma Red – any one of which can be applied at no extra cost. Alternatively, Mercury, Jet Black and Panorama Blue are metallic colours that are available as options.
Load space options When it comes to capacity, the Renault Trafic provides short wheelbase (SWB) and long wheelbase (LWB) permutations. SWB Pro and Premium trims offer a maximum load volume of 5,200 litres, while their LWB counterparts provide as much as a 6,000-litre cargo capacity. Crew Lifestyle grades, meanwhile, are available as LWBs only, offering a total 4,000-litre cargo volume (and greater crew capacity, of course). Accordingly, payload ranges from 1,118kg (Crew Lifestyle) to 1,274kg (LWB Premium).
Load bay features The Trafic’s cargo area includes a 12-volt power socket, two light sources and a minimum 12 anchor points. Premium trims add a pair of hooks for hanging coats, etc. and a minimum of four more anchorage points. Optional Trade and Business packs are available, too, each providing yet more features, such as LED strip ceiling lighting (Trade) and extra-tinted rear windows (Business).
Cab-based cubbies A series of handy compartments is located around the cab, including under-seat storage. Premium trims feature more places to keep things, such as an opening and closing dashboard compartment and four cup-holders.
Infotainment options An AM/FM tuner and DAB radio are supplied as standard, as are AUX and USB ports and Bluetooth connectivity, the latter allowing you to stream audio content and enjoy hands-free telephony. A seven-inch touchscreen infotainment (featuring navigation functionality) can be specified as an option, and comes as standard with Premium/Crew Lifestyle variants.
Performance A standard-issue 1.6-litre diesel engine is fitted to Pro and Premium trims, while a 2.0-litre unit can also be selected with SWB and LWB Premium variants, and comes as standard with Crew Lifestyle models. The most fuel-efficient engine option comes with Premium (SWB and LWB) versions, and manages a combined 6.2 litres per 100km figure, with CO2 emissions from just 164g/km. A six-speed manual gearbox is supplied in most instances, while extra-responsive six-speed automatic transmission features at no extra cost with SWB/LWB Premium and Crew Lifestyle models.
See the light Dusk-sensing headlights provide the driver with one less thing to think about when natural light begins to fail. Meanwhile, front and rear fog lamps, deliver enhanced all-weather visibility, and LED headlights offer optimal illumination. All are fitted as standard.
Hill-start Assist Hill-start Assist (HAS) is one of a number of standard-issue driver aids. HAS uses sensors that operate whenever the Trafic is in a stationary position on an incline. In such instances, whenever the engine is started, HAS ensures that brake pressure is maintained, up until the point when the accelerator pedal is engaged.
Parking provision Reversing a van into a parking spot can be tricky, especially on a busy city street. This is why the Trafic is installed with rear-mounted sensors and a rear-view camera, which helps to make this manoeuvre as easy as possible.
