Renault is bringing more of its European technology to Australia, with the new Renault Megane hatchback now available in diesel.
The smaller 1.5-litre engine sets it apart from most of the other competition in the diesel market, boasting fuel consumption at 4.5 l per 100km.
"I can say without doubt that the new Renault Megane hatch diesel will be one of the leaders in repositioning Renault in Australia," the brand's managing director Justin Hocevar said.
"The small car segment is highly competitive in Australia. We have studied the market and are confident that we are introducing a very competitively priced and highly-specified car," Mr Hocevar said.
Last month, 24.3 per cent of new cars sales in Australia fell into the small car segment.
The Renault Megane also sees the introduction of the efficient dual-clutch (EDC) six-speed automated manual transmission to the brand's Australian range.
Both quiet and economical, this comfortable ride still offers Renault's follow-me-home headlights, hands-free entry and ABS with an emergency-assist function as standard.
Diesel is offered in both the Dynamique and Privilege models, starting at $27,490, excluding dealer delivery and on-road costs.
